The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se), established in 2010, is a hub for life science research in Sweden and a collaboration between Swedish universities. SciLifeLab forms an internationally unique infrastructure and research community, bringing together groundbreaking life science technologies with data and AI expertise. Computational methods and artificial intelligence applied to large-scale molecular data are transforming the study of biological systems at all levels, from molecular structures and cellular processes to human health and global ecosystems. SciLifeLab is scaling up its computational biology and data science capabilities and launching a major recruitment call for outstanding staff scientists in areas such as bioinformatics, data management, artificial intelligence and IT to join our national research infrastructure. The successful candidate will be working at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, a central unit within SciLifeLab with responsibility for IT- and data management issues, serving the SciLifeLab and the Data Driven Life.
Science (DDLS) research program. We have a national assignment and operate a range of services for life science data and e-infrastructure. We also work with issues about FAIR data and open science, and in close collaboration with major national and international partners. Working at the Data Centre, you will be at the core of Sweden’s top infrastructure for life sciences and have the opportunity to actively shape how state-of-the-art IT and data science are integrated in Swedish life science research, and help to maximize the scientific impact of the large amount of research data generated at SciLifeLab. You will work in a team with researchers, data engineers, data stewards and system developers in a rapidly growing, dynamic and progressive team with a leading role in Swedish data-driven life science.
Duties
SciLifeLab is now recruiting up to five Data Engineers to develop and integrate AI within SciLifeLab’s ecosystem of data and IT services for data-driven research. You will work in an agile team focused on designing and implementing modern data and AI architectures that empower researchers in life science to leverage the latest AI technologies. The role also involves developing and maintaining systems and services, building scalable pipelines, optimizing performance, and ensuring high quality in both data and models.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about technology and eager to contribute to the future of life science research. You stay up to date with the latest trends in AI and software development, and you thrive in an environment where new solutions are rapidly put into practice.
We offer a dynamic and inspiring work environment. We also value knowledge sharing between teams and developers, and provide opportunities for continuous learning and development.

* Documented experience in large-scale data management, high-performance computing systems, GPU acceleration, and parallel file systems
* Documented experience with container and cloud technologies such as Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes
* Ability to communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written
Additional qualifications
* Knowledge of or interest in biomedical research and infrastructure
* Experience working with Scrum or similar agile methodologies
* Experience with AI Agents and reasoning AI models
* Experience in web development with Python, Django, JavaScript
* Diligence, initiative, and an interest in supporting Swedish research in artificial intelligence and data-driven life science
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The applicant must have excellent collaboration skills, initiative, and strong communication abilities, as well as demonstrated active competence progression relevant for this position.
