The Department of Information Technology has a leading position in both research and education at all levels. Duties
Job duties include participation in research and development of software to make powerful AI tools available for cytopathologists. More specifically, the work involves programming in JavaScript and Python to integrate and improve tools for active machine learning, effective visualization of large amounts of data, documentation and version control in git.
Requirements
To be employed as a research assistant, it is a requirement that you have been accepted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level. The work requires experience in developing collaborative software for the web, documented experience in deep learning in PyTorch, experience in git and github. Knowledge of and experience in deep learning with convolutional networks for image analysis. Experience in developing software for web-based interactive handling of extremely large images for digital pathology (Whole Slide Imaging), such as TissUUmaps, CytoBrowser, caMicroscope, HistomicsUI, or similar.
Additional qualifications
Good academic results in relevant courses in image analysis and machine learning. Good ability to express yourself in writing in English. Experience of working with Linux. Experience with OpenSeadragon-based tool for handling cytological whole-slide images with focus stacks. Experience with AI methods for efficient cell detection and/or cell classification. Experience with methods for active machine learning and/or similar human-in-the-loop methods for reliable deep learning with medical applications.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12, until 31 August 2025. Scope of employment 50 %. Starting date 21 July 2025 or as soon as possible as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
