The research at the Department of Food Studies, Nutrition, and Dietetics at Uppsala University is interdisciplinary in nature, focusing on exploring the complexity of food and meals for individuals, various groups, and in different contexts, from both natural and social science perspectives. Food choice, nutrition behaviour and sustainability with a focus on populations at increased risk of health disparities

Duties
We are seeking a highly motivated and interdisciplinary postdoctoral researcher to join our team in exploring the complex interplay between food choice, nutrition behaviour, and environmental sustainability. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to research that addresses both individual and societal challenges related to healthy and sustainable eating, with a particular emphasis on populations at increased risk of health disparities at the intersection of nutrition science, psychology, pedagogy, and public health.

The research will highlight how food choices are shaped by sensory experiences, social contexts, and environmental considerations. A central focus will be on school meals and other communal eating settings, where food preferences and behaviours are influenced by both individual traits and shared environments. The project will pay special attention to children with neurodevelopmental disorders, while also considering other groups who may face challenges related to food acceptance and dietary diversity.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in applied, interdisciplinary research. Applicants should have a background in nutrition science, psychology, pedagogy, public health, or a related field. Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research, as well as an interest in working with children or neurodiverse populations, will be considered an asset.

The postdoc is expected to play an active role in designing and implementing relevant research with high practical value. The postdoc will be responsible for analysing collected data and preparing manuscripts for publication in high-ranking journals. This will be done in close collaboration with other researchers at the department, while the candidate should independently develop their research profile in relation to the department’s overall scientific activities. The work may also involve collaborations with other institutions in Sweden and/or internationally including schools, community organisations and policy stakeholders.

Requirements
Doctoral degree in nutrition science, psychology, pedagogy, public health, or a related field.

Foreign degrees must be assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. The degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made. Preference will be given to those who have completed their degree no more than three years ago. The three-year time frame is calculated based on the application deadline. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, assignments within trade union organizations, etc.

Additional qualifications
We are looking for a person who is responsible, motivated, and has demonstrated independence in their research work. It is considered a merit if the applicant has experience in subject areas and methods relevant to the research focus. This includes both quantitative and qualitative methods, experience in writing scientific articles and grant applications, as well as effectively communicating research findings through oral presentations and scientific publications. A good ability to express oneself in English, both orally and in writing, is essential. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, such as flexibility and problem-solving ability, as well as strong collaboration skills and a willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary research environments. Having a well-established professional network is considered an advantage.
