The assessment of eligible candidates will pay particular attention to skills in both research and pedagogy. Equal weight will be assigned to research and teaching proficiency. The applicant’s managerial and administrative skills will also be taken into account.
Research proficiency refers to research qualifications. The assessment of academic qualifications will primarily emphasise the quality of scholarship. The assessment of research expertise will pay particular weight on research qualifications in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
In addition to a broad knowledge of historical and contemporary empirical case studies, applicants should be well acquainted with relevant theories on genocide (including the problem of definition), conflicts, the social dynamics of violence, collective memory and pedagogy, as well as identity processes, ethnicity and nationalism. In addition, a broad research competence in the field is required, with a particular emphasis on comparison and in terms of knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. As the subject of Holocaust and Genocide Studies has a distinctly interdisciplinary character, the experience of collaborations that encompass the humanities and social sciences will also be considered.

Pedagogical excellence refers to qualifications in terms of education and teaching. In addition to academic teaching qualifications, educational and teaching qualifications from other activities, including for instance supervision and internal training or mentoring programmes, may also be taken into account. The assessment of pedagogical skills will primarily consider the quality of teaching. The range of skills in terms of breadth and depth will also be taken into account. Particular emphasis will be placed on teaching qualifications in Holocaust and genocide studies insofar the assessment is concerned. Furthermore, the ability to link teaching and research will be given importance. Because teaching has a distinctly interdisciplinary character, the experience of teaching and supervising students with different subject backgrounds and interests will be paid particular importance.
The ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop education and teaching subject didactics and higher education pedagogy will be taken into account. Pedagogical skills include the ability to interact with stakeholders within and outside the university regarding issues relating to pedagogy in higher education.
Administrative, management and interpersonal skills are important for the position and will also be taken into account.
Administrative skills are demonstrated in the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work efficiently and purposefully, as well as in the ability to set and meet deadlines. Proficiency includes overall planning of activities and the ability to manage resources in a way that is commensurate with the organisation's priorities, as well as to work in a structured way with an awareness of objectives and quality.
Management skills are shown by the ability to lead activities and staff, to take decisions, and responsibility, as well as to motivate and empower others to achieve common goals effectively. The ability to coordinate the group, contribute to the creation of commitment, participation, and job satisfaction, as well as the ability to manage conflicts, are further examples of demonstrated skills.
Collaboration skills are demonstrated by the ability and proficiency in the planning, organisation and implementation of cooperation activities with the community at large. Popular science publications, participation in public debates and lectures are examples of interaction with the community at large. Collaboration qualifications include the ability to engage with the community in knowledge exchange activities that improve development and quality of the education.
All the qualifications possessed by the applicant must be documented so as to allow an assessment of both their quality and quantity.
In this recruitment process, the university will primarily consider those who, after a qualitative overall assessment of competences and skills, are judged to have the best prerequisites for carrying out and developing the relevant tasks, as well as to contribute to the positive development of the organisation.
