Teaching assistant

We are looking for a dynamic resourceful, and experienced person to work as an amanuens who will help with administration and logistics of PERCEPT’s overseas studies dealing with war-related trauma related to Ukraine. The project aims to develop innovative methods for managing and reducing intrusive memories, particularly those related to direct exposure during conflict (e.g., bombing), viewing repeated media exposure pertaining to conflict (e.g., horrendous video footage on social media), and witnessing the suffering of others affected by the war.

The project is relevant for improving understanding of memory processes and for psychological treatment. Being able to modulate persistent memories through digital tools can open new opportunities for treating trauma and improve the quality of life for those affected by intrusive memories.

Part of this work will be focusing on trial studies in conflict areas and with refugees, principally in the post-Soviet space. The role involves a degree of contact with project partners in this area. The job also involves administrative duties such as travel arrangements.

Duties
•    Scheduling meetings with project partners in the post-Soviet space 
•    Recording minutes for project meetings
•    Attending regular project and team meetings
•    Project administration related to the project such as filing materials and bringing past minutes to the meetings
•    Helping with communication of project’s state of work and results
•    Planning own tasks and goals weekly and giving feedback on progress in weekly team meetings
•    Organising and classifying documents and records belonging to the PERCEPT research group
•    Completing a clear up of paper documents in PERCEPT offices before summer 2025
•    Assisting with the travel, planning and logistics for conferences and events
•    Collating and organising materials for external communications including social media
•    Providing general administrative support on an ad hoc basis

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. 

You have a relevant masters education qualification with relevant courses relating to the post-Soviet space and conflict studies or knowledge and experience deemed equivalent by the employer.

Educational qualifications on migration and terrorism is a necessity due to the project’s target group focus. 

You have previous administrative experience working in projects dealing with psychological trauma.

Prior experience in academic support (travel planning and logistics), grant reporting, administration and archiving.

Previous experience in dealing with external communications and conference planning in an academic context.

Previous experience in working on a research project related to trauma and Ukraine.

Willingness to plan time and tasks around needs of project and wider team, and to feedback on plans and progress on a weekly basis. 

Given the context in which the study is operating in, prior experience from working in international organisations, government agencies or NGOs is required.

You are fluent in spoken and written English. This should be complemented with additional language skills relating to the region or diaspora groups that are a focus of the project.

Additional qualifications
Strong emphasis is placed on personal qualities. You are used to working in a result- and goal-oriented manner and with short deadlines. Many of the tasks require good cooperation skills. The work also requires that you take your own initiative and are driven, have a sense of service and are flexible, and continuously develop your work. You are proactive about time management and plan in advance what is needed.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment 50 %. Starting date 1 March 2025 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
