Uppsala University, Department of Surgical Sciences

The Department of Surgical Sciences (IKV) is part of the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy. IKV has about 160 employees and 200 registered doctoral (third cycle) students, the majority of which are clinically active doctors and nurses. The yearly turnover is SEK 170 million. Research is conducted at the department, as well as teaching in the first, second and third cycles. Teaching is, among other areas, conducted within the education programmes for doctors, nurses and specialty nurses. Research is conducted in more than 20 research groups organised according to surgical specialties and closely aligned subject areas, such as anaesthesia and intensive care and radiology. A great deal of research is conducted in cooperation between separate research groups within IKV and other departments at Uppsala University, as well as other universities in Sweden and the rest of the world. Many of the department's employees have combined positions at the University Hospital.

 

The Department of Surgical Sciences, advertises a position as a Research Engineer.

The objectives of the project are  development of deep learning algorithms as decision support tools in neuroradiology with applications in iNPH and dementia. 

Duties

You will be working with neuroradiologists that will help you to deeply understand the clinical problems and come up with methods using machine learning and image analysis to automatically evaluate different neuroradiological biomarkers. Our methods have the potential to be used and tested clinically, helping both the patients and the physicians. 

Requirements

B.Sc. in CS/mathematics/engineering

M.Sc. in image analysis and machine learning

Extensive experience with Python and DL frameworks (Pytorch)

Excellent language skills in English (or Swedish)

Additional qualifications
(Description of what is an advantage, ie beyond requirements stated above, for example experience in a specific working method, IT-systems, etc.)

Github portfolio with documented projects in medical image analysis and AI

Published research articles in radiological AI
PhD in medical image analysis and machine learning

 

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 6 monts. Scope of employment 50 %. Start date upon agreement.

Placement: Uppsala. Fluency in spoken and written English or Swedish is a must.
