Duties
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to work on frontier hybrid carbonaceous materials for applications in carbon micro-and nano-electronics.  A doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, or relevant areas, with experience in cleanroom microfabrication and nanofabrication is required. The researcher will conduct research at both Upsala University and University of Miami under the co-supervision of Dr. Wei Luo & Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Department of physics and astronomy at Uppsala University and Dr. Chunlei Wang (miami.edu), Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at University of Miami. The project is part of a larger effort focusing on new hybrid carbonaceous materials and their applications in miniaturized energy storge, power generation and biosensing systems. The hybrid carbonaceous materials could store more energy in on-chip supercapacitors or exhibit higher sensitivity as sensing materials in digital health.  Because of the highly complex structures and functionalities, fundamental understanding of correlations of material design, synthesis, characterization, and device performance of the hybrid nanomaterials is needed. The project involves the experimental work using class 100 cleanroom facilities, such as: photolithography, sputtering, E-beam evaporation, dry etching, and wet etching. The duties include collaboration with the various members of the group as well as outside group in Sweden/abroad and the production of research results in form of scientific publications.

Requirements
Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, or related subject. The applicant should have a strong experimental background in microfabrication, carbonaceous materials, MEMS and NEMS. Fluency in both written and spoken English is an absolute prerequisite.

Additional qualifications
Some experience in electronic structure calculations will be an added advantage.

Application
The application should consist of cover letter, CV, publication list, and a short research statement describing the applicant’s research experiences and interests. The applicant should also arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent by e-mail to wei.luo@physics.uu.se.  Contact information for the letter writers should be included in the application.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 12 months. Scope of employment 100%. Starting date 2024-07-01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala

For further information about the position, please contact:
Drs. Wei Luo (wei.luo@physics.uu.se), Chunlei Wang (wangc@miami.edu), or Rajeev Ahuja (rajeev.ahuja@physics.uu.se).
