Administrative assistant

Would you like to work as an administrator in an international research project located at the Department of English? The ALMEDA (African Literary Metadata) project is a five-year research project, funded by the European Research Council. The ALMEDA research team includes experts in African literature, African library science and digital humanities/information science. A number of case-study researchers and fellows will also be attached to the project. As such, the project operates as a team-based research environment in which scholars and experts will be addressing the key questions of the research project together.

Duties
As an assistant you will work as an administrator for the ALMEDA project and as an administrative support for the project leader (Ashleigh Harris). The position is located at the Department of English.

Work duties include 

  • Administrative tasks, such as bookings of trips, hotels and events, etc; coordination of administrative information and data within the project (for example, support for international researchers with their visa applications; coordination of time-sheets for researchers; and ongoing communication of project expenditure with the economist at the Department of English)
  • Communication on the project’s social media channels
  • Management of the project’s email
  • Updating of content on the project website.

Other administrative tasks may occur. 

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. You should be able to easily communicate in both spoken and written English and Swedish. You should also have documented experience of administrative or communication work.

Additional qualifications

Experience in using Microsoft Excel is a merit, as is competence in communicating on social media platforms. Experience of administration within universities is meritorious. Personal suitability for the position will weigh heavily in the assessment of candidates for this position.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment 20% Starting date November 1st or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
