The position advertised here is within the research group International Women's and Maternal Health and Migration (IMHm), which is part of the Department of Women's and Children's Health at Uppsala University. IMHm is a leading research and educational environment at national and international level, and works to promote global health with a focus on women's and young people's health and migration. The research group strives to develop practical solutions and evidence-based knowledge for healthcare professionals and for decision-makers to improve sexual and reproductive health, as well as migrant health and policy-related areas. The group enjoys a national and international reputation for its pioneering work in sexual and reproductive health and migration, and has been successful in competition to obtain major research funds for its efforts to reduce inequality and to strengthen equitable global health. Description of the subject area
The subject matter of the service is specifically targeting migration and reproductive health data and a focus on reproductive rights policy and social values. The research group IMHm has received a strategically large national research grant, as part of the government's national research program in migration and integration, to improve knowledge of how to handle conflicts about values ​​and cultural changes in healthcare. The biggest challenge that we investigate is how care providers can incorporate an equality perspective and at the same time a culturally sensitive care of weight. Both aspects are indicated in health care policies and guidelines, where some of these aspects may be contradictory and are thus an unexplored dilemma in a multicultural care environment. One of the main goals of the project is to explore similarities and differences in cultural values ​​of Swedish caregivers and migrants. Sensitive topics such as reproduction, gender based violence, abortion, contraceptive advice or sexuality issues, during clinical consultations, can lead to tensions and misunderstandings between healthcare providers and migrant patients and ultimately suboptimal care. Research on how health care systems deal with these challenges is sparse. The employment includes project coordination and working with research in the group and contributing to achieving the goals within the project together with an already established interdisciplinary research team of gynecologists, anthropologists, sociologists and mathematicians at several institutions in Sweden.

Duties
The person we are looking for will work with data material from a survey of caregivers and migrants within the framework of a research program in migration and integration. The tasks include, summarizing research literature, analysis, reporting the progress of the research project, publishing and communicating research results, as well as contributing to developing new projects and applying for funding and coordinating the program of MigraMed. Administrative duties are included as well as teaching related to SRHR and migration.

Requirements
PhD degree in Medical Sciences with a focus on Sexual reproductive helath and rights including violence or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Medical Sciences with a focus on Sexual reproductive helath and rights including violence. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

The applicant must have very good ability and interest in working independently and as a part of a team and have experience of interdisciplinary collaboration. Undergraduate examen in medicine,  master of science in global health and experience of international research work with violence is a prerequisite. As an applicant you should have experience of successful research on gender based violence and social norms, values, gender equality, ethnicity and health, especially reproductive rights. Experience in data collection and data analysis in both quantitative methods and qualitative methods is essential. Furthermore, very good organizational skills and excellent written and spoken English is required. The candidate should have experience of publishing in international peer-reviewed journals. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability such as flexibility, prioritization ability, social ability, sense of quality, as well as organizational and administrative skills abilities.

Additional qualifications
Prior experience of pedagogical skills such as teaching, assisting in planning schedules and course work will be an asset.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of two years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 1 July 2023 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
