Research engineer in the field of transmission electron microscopic investigations with electron tomography and electron energy loss spectroscopy
Temporary part-time employment, 20%, 2023-07-01--2024-06-30
The division of Applied Materials Science is part of the Department of Materials Science at the Ångström Laboratory. The research in the division consists for the most part of experimental activities and is divided into four research groups: Electron microscopy and nanotechnology, Materials in medicine, Tribomaterials and Diamond optics.
The electron microscopy group has developed techniques to analyze energy materials, soft materials and materials for medical applications with the aim of correlating the local and electronic structure as well as the chemical composition with the properties of the material. The group specializes in transmission electron microscopic (TEM) investigations with electron tomography and electron energy loss spectroscopy.Simulation and statistical methods are used to interpret and evaluate experimental data.

Project description: ARTEMI is a national research infrastructure for advanced electron microscopy, appointed by the Swedish Research Council (VR). A coordinated development of electron microscopy in Sweden is achieved by combining six complementary nodes, at six partner universities, into a national infrastructure, ARTEMI, which is focused on materials science and technology, solid state physics, inorganic chemistry, nanoscience and neighboring disciplines as well as related interdisciplinary areas. ARTEMI comprises the most important materials-focused nodes at CTH, KTH, LiU (coordination), LU, SU and UU, each with an internationally leading profile in terms of expertise and instrumentation. Through joint and optimized efforts in research modules, ARTEMI can jointly develop microscopy and offer advanced methods with great impact to the research community, within the academic world and industry, in Sweden and internationally. For more information see www.artemi.se
Tasks: The tasks within the research project above involve planning and carrying out transmission electron microscopic (TEM) investigations on assignments within ARTEMIS.
Qualification requirements: Master's or civil engineering degree with studies in technical physics, materials science, or equivalent. We require several years of experience in research with TEM and also competence and experience in electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and electron tomography.
We require good oral and written skills in English.
Additional qualifications: We attach great importance to your personal qualities and you must be self-motivated, have the ability to lead and run smaller projects and be able to collaborate with other researchers. It is important that you are pedagogical, structured and that you can work effectively both individually and in a group.
