Duties
A sustainable software system could be defined as energy-efficient with a minimum environmental impact and a positive impact on social and/or economic sustainability. Sustainability of software systems is an important challenge for the IT community as more and more people are adopting software solutions in different fields, and with the advances in ICT their use will keep increasing. This increase in software systems use comes at a cost to the environment.
A key challenge in the design of sustainable software systems is to provide users with high-quality software products without compromising their energy-efficiency. Thus, the main focus of this thesis project is to identify novel approaches to software system design that provide an acceptable trade-off between software sustainability and quality-in-use (i.e., quality perceived by end-users). The project is therefore necessarily multidisciplinary, and the successful applicant will be working on more than one branch of knowledge. The outcome of the project will bridge the gap between software engineering, human-computer interaction, and software sustainability.
The position is for at most five years and includes department duties (mainly teaching) at a level of at most 20%.
