Duties
A position as a researcher is available in a group at Uppsala University led by Professor Mia Phillipson, CoDirector at SciLifeLab. The research group is a dynamic and highly enthusiastic research team with a well-established collaborative network and strong funding. The Phillipson laboratory is equipped with advanced engineering tools and technologies that enable e.g. in-vivo observations of intravascular leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions, blood flow and angiogenesis. We are now investigating how the immune cells regulate angiogenesis, vessel pruning, vascular maturation, and blood flow. To achieve this goal, endothelial cells and interaction between them and immune cells will here be explored.

Duties of this specific project include supervision of master students, spectral flow cytometry, cell sorting, advanced confocal microscopy and image analysis, and bioinformatic processing of single cell sequencing data.

Requirements
For employment as a researcher, you must have a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctorate, in immunology, biomedicine, physiology or cell biology. We are looking for someone with extensive expertise in angiogenesis, vascular pruning and endothelial – immune cell interactions during graft rejection but also tumor vascularisation. Of particular interest for the project would be a background on vascular biology from development to disease. The candidate is expected to be able to use several techniques to investigate how immune cells influence vasculature and functional perfusion. Previous sequencing experience is required, as well as extensive molecular biology experience. Applicants should have a deep knowledge in flow cytometry, where spectral flow cytometry is a plus. They should also be able to readily sort rare cell populations. The person should have experience with mouse handling and have worked tumor models and models of peripheral ischemia. The FELASA or equivalent certification is a must. Mice breeding management is preferred.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced candidate with strong drive for collaboration and supervision of students. The successful candidate will be expected to bring new knowledge and lead high quality research projects from design and performance to publication. The projects will be carried out in collaboration with the project team, other team members and facilities. Very good knowledge of oral and written English is a requirement. Previous master or PhD students’ supervision experience and teaching experience is preferred.

Additional qualifications
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish: A complete CV, including the date of the thesis defense, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions and committee work A complete list of publications A summary of the current work (maximum one page).
