Project description: Machine learning is becoming a key component in many modern devices and services, ranging from personal mobile devices to autonomous vehicles or smart grids. To improve the underlying machine learning models, it is often crucial that devices share data among each other or with a central authority. This raises several privacy and cybersecurity issues and it must be ensured that both user data remains safe and that user’s privacy is ensured. In this project, we investigate how these challenges can be addressed using modern privacy-preserving approaches such as federated learning, differential privacy and machine learning using encrypted data.

Duties
The main duties of this position are to conduct applied research and practical implementation of research results. In particular, the duties are to develop novel secure machine learning methods based on homomorphic encryption schemes together with their practical implementation in Python and C/C++.

Requirements

  • The applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a Ph.D. degree in computer science, signal processing, control theory or related.
  • The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
  • Knowledge of information security, cryptography, and abstract algebra.
  • Knowledge of programming in Python and C/C++.
  • Very good written and oral proficiency in English.
  • Personal qualities such as good collaboration and cummunication skills. You should be purposeful, structured and be able to work effectively, both indiviudally and in groups.
  • Knowledge in Bayesian inference.
