Postdoctoral position in comparative immunology - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The position is located in Söderhäll's research group (https://www.iob.uu.se/research/comparative-physiology/soderhall-lab/://www.iob.uu.se/forskning/jamforande-fiziologi/soderhall-lab/) at the Department of Organismal Biology (Uppsala University). We study innate immune processes in invertebrates, mainly crustaceans, and compare these reactions with those described in higher animals. The project that the position refers to involves studies of crayfish blood cell-forming (hematopoietic) organ, which contain stem cells that develop into several different types of cells, such as immune defense cells, but also cells that participate in the new formation of nerve cells and cells that repair damage in the brain.

Duties
The candidate must conduct research full-time within the framework of the research group's project, mainly including studies of blood cell formation and immunity in crustaceans. The candidate shall take responsibility for ensuring that the research is of high quality. Supervision of students may occur and the candidate is expected to participate in the joint activities of the research group and also to take responsibility for the research's documentation and shared equipment.

Requirements
PhD in Biology with a focus on cell biology or immunology or another subject that the employer deems equivalent. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

The candidate must have solid experience in laboratory work with blood cells and/or nerve cells from crustaceans or other arthropods, good skills in fluorescence microscopy, and extensive experience in molecular biology and/or protein chemistry work. As the research is conducted in an international environment and scientific articles are published in English, the ability to communicate in English (spoken and written) at a high level is an absolute requirement.

Additional qualifications
Experience with methods for studying mitophagy is advantageous, as is experience with RNA-FISH and confocal microscopy.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of at least two years and at most three years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
