Cybersecurity in general deals with the protection of information systems, and the services and operations that they support, against unauthorized access and disruption. Cybersecurity is essential in a highly digitalized society to protect devices and engineered infrastructures, from individual computers to complex socio-technical systems. It is a multidisciplinary research area, including aspects of information technology, human factors, ethics, law, policy, and risk management in the context of adversaries.

The Department of Information Technology is expanding in the field of cybersecurity, which is a strategic area for both research and education (see https://www.it.uu.se/research/cybersecurity). The Department has recently started a doctoral school in cybersecurity, and is expanding the educational offerings also on bachelor and master levels. Interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education are enabled by our comprehensive university, exemplified by existing collaborations with the departments of Law, Government, and Business Studies. A holistic approach to cybersecurity is being formed, encompassing and combining research and education across scientific areas, including outreach and collaboration with industry and society.

Within the Department of Information Technology, this position is at the Computing Science Division. Our research addresses the theory, design and implementation of programming languages, formal methods for software engineering, combinatorial optimization, data science, databases, and artificial intelligence.
