Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Uppsala University Drug Optimization and Pharmaceutical Profiling Platform (UDOPP) is located at the Department of Pharmacy, Uppsala University. The primary aim of UDOPP is to perform in vitro ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion) investigations of hit collections and compound series during lead optimization in collaboration with academic research groups. The platform also performs preclinical characterization of lead and candidate drug compounds and bioanalytical services. The platform was formed in 2009 and is supported by a research group performing cutting edge research in the ADME and drug delivery field.

UDOPP is part of the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) Conception consortium. UDOPP, as ADME of Therapeutics facility, is also a part of the SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development Platform (SciLifeLab DDD). For more information, please visit the following respective homepages at: IMI Conception and UDOPP .

The IMI Conception consortium includes partners from academia and private pharmaceutical companies. This creates a European network for generating and disseminating evidence-based information with regards to effects of medications used during pregnancy and breastfeeding to women and their healthcare providers. The project was launched in April 2019. The UDOPP team is responsible for: 1) setting up analytical methods validated to regulatory requirements, 2) bioanalysis of human plasma and breast milk samples collected during the demonstration studies, 3) population pharmacokinetics (popPK) modelling.

We are now recruiting a highly motivated and flexible bioanalytical scientist to expand our capacity. The position will be located at the Uppsala University Drug Optimization and Pharmaceutical Profiling Platform (UDOPP), Department of Pharmacy, Uppsala University. Further information about the department and the research groups can be found at www.farmfak.uu.se/farm/

Purpose of the position is to provide scientific, bioanalytical knowledge, expertise, and experimental work to the demonstration studies within the IMI Conception consortium. The major objective is to perform bioanalysis of human plasma and breast milk samples collected during the clinical demonstration studies for small and biopharmaceutical drug molecules. The bioanalysis need to be performed and reported according to recommendations and requirements from regulatory authorities (EMA, FDA).

Duties

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Sample preparation and quantitative analysis of human plasma and breast milk samples of small molecule compounds using LC-MS/MS technique.
  • Develop and validate analytical method for biologic drugs using LC-MS/MS and/or ligand binding assay (LBA)
  • Sample preparation and quantitative analysis of human plasma and breast milk samples of biologic drug(s) using LC-MS/MS and/or LBA techniques.
  • Summarizing and reporting the results according to regulatory authorities’ requirements in collaboration with academic and industry members of the Conception consortium.
  • Development, evaluation and implementation of new technologies with focus on expanding the existing LC-HRMS (liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry) capacity.
  • Taking part in maintaining the LC and MS equipment.
  • Share analytical knowledge and expertise with other members of the UDOPP team and the IMI Conception consortium.

Requirements A PhD in analytical chemistry or related biosciences. Practical experience with analysis of in vivo sample using LC-MS and in-depth knowledge and understanding of MS instruments equipped with nanoLC and UPLC are required.

Additionally, experience with: 1) bioanalytical method validation using regulatory authorities’ guidelines, 2) proteomics, metabolomics, and biomarker analysis, 3) software for MS analysis (such as Xcalibur, Masslynx, Unify etc) and the electronic lab notebook (ELN) are desired. Knowledge and understanding of ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) and pharmacokinetics (PK) processes are advantageous.

The successful candidate should also be flexible and highly motivated, have good problem solving and time management skills, and have the capacity to work with tight deadlines. Good interpersonal and cooperation skill and ability to represent UDOPP in interdisciplinary and international teams are essential.
