Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information about the department, visit www.pcr.uu.se . The department is now looking for a full-time Administrator for a one year temporary position, from mid-June 2021 until end of June 2022 (with the possibility to extend).

The position:
The administrator will be employed at the department, but will work within the newly established national center for research on nuclear disarmament, Alva Myrdal Center/AMC (70%), and within the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center/URPC (30%). Both centers located at the department.

As an administrator at the department, you will be part of our administration group, consisting of HR, finance, communication, course administration and coordinators (approx. 10 people).

The position largely involves independent work, and the administrator is therefore expected to plan and manage most of these tasks independently, in communication with the directors. As the position is to some extent new, there is an opportunity to be involved in developing the role and the working methods.

Duties:
The tasks will largely consist of organizing workshops, meetings and e-conferences, preparing and keeping track of budgets (in coordination with the department economist), writing reports, compiling documents and taking meeting notes. You will also do research-assisting tasks such as gathering information and compiling literature.

The role will also include more outreaching work tasks, like liaising with cooperation partners and funders, communicate the activities of the centers in blogs, newsletters and social media, and to participate in workshops and conferences. Other administrative tasks may be added as well.

Requirements needed:

  • Administrative work experience
  • Very good Swedish skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Very good English skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Basic knowledge of social media and software programs (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Experience of working towards deadlines
  • Experience of working both independently and in a team

We are looking for someone who enjoys working as an administrator, who is communicative and a comfortable public speaker, social and likes interacting and talking with other people, both in Swedish and in English. Someone who wants to work with various tasks, is thorough, stress-resistant and has a good ability to organize and prioritize. Someone who is a problem solver and who finds it exciting to be involved in developing this position.

Additional qualifications/merits:

  • Experience of working in InDesign or equivalent program
  • Copy-editing experience (in English)
  • Knowledge of/experience of the training program at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research and/or the Rotary Peace Program.

In this recruitment process, we will take into consideration requirements, additional qualifications as well as personal suitability.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 14 June 2021, or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position ending 30 June 2022 (12 months).

Scope of employment: 100 %.
