Uppsala University, Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences

At Uppsala University, unique national and international multidisciplinary expertise meets in a Centre for Women’s Mental Health during the Reproductive Lifespan, WoMHeR (https://uu.se/forskning/womher). The overarching aim for WoMHeR is to develop evidence based knowledge that can serve as basis for future strategic decisions in working life and society. An essential and important part of WoMHeR is a PhD graduate school where this PhD project is one of the awarded projects.

Description of the research group and the project

The research group Child Health and Parenting (CHAP), is an interdisciplinary group with the main focus on evaluating society's efforts for children and parents' mental health. Our research is conducted in projects and often in collaboration with municipalities, county councils and voluntary organizations.

It has become increasingly apparent that refugees, particularly women, are subject to high levels of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV), which has a number of long-term negative consequences for emotional-psychological, sexual reproductive and physical health. This project will utilise qualitative and participatory research methods to develop a mental health support service model for women with a refugee background in Sweden who have experienced SGBV.

Duties:

Your main responsibility will be to run your own doctoral studies, which includes participation in the research project and in the doctoral programme. You will participate in data collection including case review and workshops in different locations and collaborate with non-governmental organizations. In addition, report writing is included, both in Swedish and English and presentations in various contexts.

Requirements:

Basic higher education of at least 180 higher education credits in medicine or nursing as well as education at advanced level (60 credits) within the relevant master's program (global health or public health). Documented knowledge in statistics and qualitative analysis is a requirement: you must be able to handle the statistical program SPSS, or equivalent, and be able to make descriptive and simpler correlation analyzes and carry out a qualitative analysis according to any method on your own. Good ability to communicate in speech and writing - both in Swedish and English - is also a requirement.

You must be ambitious, serious and have a habit of delivering what you undertake. Good social skills are important for building relationships with our project partners and users, who will be an important part of the project.

Additional qualifications:

Experience of project management or research and development projects within the municipality or health care, as well as experience of scientific studies and research in migration is an advantage. Experience of working with the target group of refugees in health care will be given special consideration.
