The department of Art History offers education on the basic level, advanced level and PhD level as well as conducts research within the three disciplines of art history, textile studies and conservation of cultural heritage at two locations, Campus English Park in Uppsala and Campus Gotland in Visby. Conservation is a cross-disciplinary discipline combining different professions in arts and sciences with the aim of improving the possibilities of defining, selecting, describing, preserving, using and developing cultural heritage. At the department is Sustainable Heritage Research Forum that coordinates and communicates research on cultural heritage. Tasks
The PhD student at the Department of History of Arts will focus on conservation of cultural heritage. In the application you must relate your project to at least one of the research fields of conservation on Campus Gotland. All of these fields relate to sustainable development in different ways. These fields are:
- energy use in buildings and traditional building materials,
- cultural property and heritage politics in peace and conflict,
- cultural heritage in sustainable regional development.

The doctoral student's job is to conduct his / her education at doctoral level and to actively participate in the activities of the department and the research program. Attendance at higher seminars and participation in the general duties of the department is expected. Employment within administration and / or teaching may be considered (up to 20%) and in such cases provide a basis for extending the employment period to a corresponding degree. The daily working place is on Campus Gotland, Visby, but visits in Uppsala may occur.

Qualifications
To qualify for a doctoral position a candidate should have a Master's degree or the equivalent knowledge. Applicants must also have special qualifications in Art History or the equivalent knowledge. The applicant should have very good knowledge of English. Especially meriting is experience from teaching, research or other professional experience within the field of cultural heritage. Skills in speaking, reading and writing in Swedish are meriting.

Your application can be written in Swedish or English and must include:
1) CV including a description of your education

2) Introductory letter explaining why you apply and summarising the most important merits that qualify you for the position.
3) One copy of your Master’s thesis and academic publications (maximum 5 in total)
4) A project proposal of nore more than 4,000 words describing the proposed PhD project
5) Authenticated copies of degree certificates
6) Other relevant documents that you wish to have taken into considerance.
