The Centre for Gender Research was established in 2003 as an interdisciplinary unit within Uppsala University with a focus on gender research. We are placed within the Disciplinary Domain of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts, but our research and education includes both social and biological perspectives on sex/gender. We have over thirty researchers doing research that spans all disciplinary domains. We offer courses and study programmes on undergraduate and advanced level. Eight PhD students are currently taking part in our PhD programme. Read more about our research here: gender.uu.se/forskning.

The Department of Game Design was established in 2013, through the merger of Gotland University and Uppsala University. Game development and game design education and research had been conducted at the former Gotland University for about ten years prior to the merger. The department currently offers four Bachelor degree programmes: BA Game Design and Graphics, BA Game Design and Programming, BA Game Design and Project Management, and BA Game Design. A Master’s programme in Game Design started during autumn 2019. The department additionally offers independent courses in game design, graphics, and game programming. Research within the department focuses on fundamental issues relevant to the field of game design.
