This research programme is a decade-long multidisciplinary research program (2015-2025) financed by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) with support from the Vice-Chancellor's strategic funds and the Faculty of Arts at Uppsala University.
Project description: The goal of the program Engaging Vulnerability is to conduct empirical research and develop theoretical perspectives engaging vulnerability as a productive resource rather than as a lack or privation. In the fall of 2020, research within the program will include new phd students in the history of ideas, idéhistoria, anthropology, ALM, aesthetics, classical archaeology and history. More information about the program can be found at http://www.engagingvulnerability.se

The research programme Engaging Vulnerability is open to dissertation projects on a very broad range of possible research questions and empirical areas within the fields mentioned above. Suitable topics may engage with studies of social as well as sexual vulnerability, activism and resistance, gender or environmental issues, sustainability and resilience that has been expressed in various artistic or craft projects, processes or practices in different media. Other possible topics could be place, space, architecture, design, technology and material, as well as industries, normbreaking expressions of identity and other kinds of exposed conditions in the present or further back in history. However, the application must explain clearly how the proposed project can contribute to the overall aims of the research programme, and how the project will build on existing competencies and extend the program in vital directions. Of relevance is also how meaning is created and transmitted in the multimedial world of today and how the conditions for the practice of art and craft is changing with the introduction of new digital techniques and artificial intelligence.
