Subject description:

You will mainly be working in 2 large research initiatives at Uppsala University: the new VINNOVA Competence Centre in Additive Manufacturing for the Life Sciences (2020-2024, https://www.vinnova.se/nyheter/2019/06/satsning-pa-forskningsmiljoer-i-varldsklass/), and the Ångström Initiative for Additive Manufacturing (AM@Å, www.additivemanufacturing.se), and thus you will be integrated in the research environments involved in these two initiatives. The research areas covered are technology, chemistry and physics, with elements of biology in the implementations. The research consortia involved include several partners, such as other universities, institutes, hospitals and companies.

Duties: The work duties involves:

  • Active work in research projects on synthesis and characterisation of materials produced using additive manufacturing. The work will mainly be on powder bed based method methods, but may also include other additive manufacturing of polymers, ceramics and composite materials
  • Responsibility for operation and maintenance of instruments for additive manufacturing.
  • Responsibility for operation and maintenance of laboratories
  • Teaching in experimental laboratory procedures
  • Responsibility for internal and external research projects, including writing of reports
  • Participation in outreach activities

 

Requirements: A Master of Science or equivalent in engineering physics, material sciences or engineering chemistry or the equivalent. Hands-on experience in additive manufacturing of metals. Hands-on experience of development of experimental research methods. Good communication skills in Swedish and English, written and orally. Great emphasis will be put on your ability to perform and develop relevant tasks and the ability to further develop present activities. We seek a responsible person, with the ability of multi-tasking, a strong sense of creativity and thoroughness and a genuine interest for materials and additive manufacturing. 

Further requirements: Previous experience in biomaterials and/or other biological applications, vacuum technique, XRD, electron microscopy and micro-CT analysis is meriting and so is also teaching experience.
