The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in research as well as teaching at all levels. The Department has about 280 employees, including 120 senior faculty and 110 PhD students. More than 4000 students are enrolled annually. The position as Postdoctor will be placed at the Division of Computer Systems, one of five divisions at the Department. For more information, please see www.it.uu.se

Duties/Project description: The Uppsala Networked Objects group (UNO) at the Department of Information Technology is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to strengthen an on-going project on security and privacy for in-body sensor networks.
As new application areas for implanted medical devices such as drug delivery systems, intracranial pressure monitoring devices and artificial kidneys are emerging, the number of implanted devices will increase tremendously. These implanted devices will also be networked as more and more (elderly) people have multiple diseases that can benefit from implanted devices. The communication between implanted devices will exploit a novel communication channel Uppsala University has pioneered, namely RF communication through the human's adipose (fat) tissue. As these devices perform vital functions, they need to be secured which is the goal of this project. The project is multi-disciplinary with partners from computer science, control, microwave engineering and the university hospital.

The position includes research and a limited amount (max 20%) of teaching.

Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Computer Science or similar area, and have a background in security or privacy, ideally for resource-constrained and/or wireless devices. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
Publications in international peer-reviewed journals or conferences are expected. Good collaboration and social skills are also essential. Proficiency in the English language (spoken and written) is required.

Assessment Criteria/Ranking: The ranking of eligible applicants will be based primarily on research expertise. In filling this position the University aims to appoint the applicant who, following a qualitative holistic assessment of her/his competence and expertise is judged to have the best potential to carry out the relevant duties.

In the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, parental leave, part-time work relating to care of children, union assignments, military service, or the like are to be regarded as work experience, and should be listed as merits in the application.

Application: The application should include a statement (at most 2 pages) of the applicant’s motivation for applying for this position, including the applicant’s qualifications and research interests and a brief description of the applicant’s PhD thesis. The application must include a CV, degrees and grades (translated to English or Swedish), a web reference to the PhD thesis, a complete list of publications with up to five important publications for the position highlighted and the candidate’s own contributions to those publications described, other relevant documents, and the earliest possible starting date. Applications should be accompanied by at least two letters of recommendation, which should be provided directly by the references through the online application system.
