Uppsala University, Department of Engineering Sciences

The Division of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials is today part of the Department of Engineering Sciences. As of 2020-01-01 the Department of Engineering Sciences will be divided in three new departments. The Division of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials will belong to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Project description and work duties: The Division of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials has several years of experience from developing mesoporous materials such as the carbonate-based material Upsalite. Over the past few years there have been significant advances made in tuning the properties of the material.

We intend to start a new project in the field of additive manufacturing for production of mesoporous materials. These materials can find use in e.g. drug delivery, clean technology and sorption applications.

The work tasks include the development of inorganic mesoporous materials (synthesis, characterisation and modification) for application in additive manufacturing. We are looking for a dexterous engineer with practical skills to develop these materials and to apply them in additive manufacturing.

Qualifications: MSc in engineering or similar disciplines related to the research field. The applicant should have a strong interest in materials chemistry, especially on porous materials, as well as a technical interest. Experience in general materials characterisation techniques such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy techniques as well as experience from additive manufacturing is an advantage.

We expect you to be proficient in oral and written English in order to interact and communicate effectively with all employees as well as to publish internationally. Excellent pedagogic and collaborative skills are required.

Personal qualities, such as the ability to manage and run scientific projects and to simultaneously interact with other researchers are very important. The applicant needs to be determined, structured and able to work efficiently both individually and in groups.
