Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace  research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.

To the department and the project "Who keeps the peace and why does it matter? Mission composition and peacekeeping effectiveness" (project leader: Chiara Ruffa), we are now looking for a Research Assistant for a fulltime 12 months employment, starting in February 2020.

Duties:

  • Qualitative data collection, interview transcription, qualitative data coding
  • Review of secondary literature    
  • Analysis of aggregated information
  • Preparation of literature reviews
  • Editing and formatting of book and article manuscript
  • Prepare draft of scientific texts

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Research, International Relations or related disciplines.
  • Good knowledge of peacekeeping activities, state military organizations, civil-military relations and related theories
  • Experience of qualitative data collection
  • Ability to independently analyze data and to develop scientific texts on a scientific basis
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability, good collaborative ability, as well as accuracy
  • Ability to work independently.

Desirable/merit:

  • Master's degree in peace and conflict research, or related disciplines
  • Previous practical experience in working in peacekeeping activities and/or humanitarian rescue/ Search and Rescue operations at sea.
  • Languages other than English, especially the languages spoken in peacekeeping missions and in Search and Rescue operations, such as French, Portuguese, German, Spanish, Greek, Swedish and Dutch
  • Good knowledge and interest about migration
