The researcher will join the newly formed Holmes research group at the Department of Psychology, Uppsala University (Emotion and Mental Imagery Lab). We use experimental psychopathology to inform psychological treatment development, with a focus on the area of mental imagery and the clinical field of psychological trauma.

Research Assistant position: Psychological and technical development for a remotely delivered psychological intervention after trauma

This is a 100% post as a research assistant in an international project where a remotely delivered psychological intervention after trauma will be developed and tested. You will be a part of a team including clinical research psychologists with expertise in psychological trauma and your main role will be leading the psychological interface and technical development of an online course approach, similar to a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), first as a standalone course, and later as an integrated part of a digital psychological intervention. You may also work on digitally delivered intervention techniques informed by cognitive science, and in particular develop ways of remotely measuring cognition, symptoms and functioning.

 This position is likely to involve (subject to ongoing discussion with the PI):

• Working on the intersection between psychological science and technology, including building the MOOC-type approach (note: the precise technological approach will be developed in the initial phase with the project team including Prof Emily Holmes, Prof Andri Bjornsson and  Dr Monica Buhrman).
• Developing highly effective educational material for an online “course” in collaboration with trauma experts, programmers, and working with internet treatment colleagues, translators and focus groups to test these. The material will include text, images, illustrations and video clips, and will be developed so it is easily produced in a variety of languages.
• When developing materials in both written and visual/audio format to promote engagement with the intervention, consider how psychological symptoms after trauma such as avoidance in themselves may impact on the use of such material.  
• Consider how the materials can be used both with and without guidance from a mental health professional or other type of support, and ultimately how to best to proceed for a future clinical trial.
• To arrange focus groups with end users for co-creation of design
• Evaluating the educative material empirically and considering training aspects.
• Working with students and other team members and collaborators, with supervisory responsibility for junior staff as delegated by the project leader (Holmes).
• Drafting scientific papers and applications as required.
• Working both independently and as part of a team, with a focus on keeping deadlines, and together with international collaborators.
• Being a part of weekly project meetings on a dedicated days at Uppsala University, and being flexible with contact per e-mail and video conferences on other times, such as evenings according to the needs of the project and collaborating time zones.
• Travelling nationally and internationally to meet project group members or to present the project when required.

Qualifications: Bachelors in Psychology completed. Proven track record of psychological research on mental imagery and memory. Demonstrated interest in digital technologies in research. Demonstrated interest in engagement/design and digitally delivered interventions.

Other skills: Near completion of a PhD in Psychology. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work creatively and flexibly with other group members in Sweden and abroad. Excellent time management skills.
