Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences has 140 employees and a number of visiting researchers and fellow students. The department has twelve research groups with a common administration and we are doing research and teaching in pharmaceutical cell biology / biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical and drug addiction, pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacometry, clinical pharmacy, bioinformatics, imaging mass spectrometry, molecular neuropharmacology, immunology, biological drugs / biotechnology as well as toxicology and drug safety. Research group in the Neuropharmacology, Addiction and Behavior 

Duties/Project description: This project aims to determine the effectiveness of the novel pharmaceutical tools targeting psychiatric diseases such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder and diseases causing impaired cognition. The PhD student is expected to perform behavioral tests as well as biochemical analysis methods in order to investigate the effects of these drugs.  

Requirements: A degree in biomedicine, pharmacy or other relevant subject area and further education in e.g. neuroscience is a requirement (at least 240 credits). The applicant should have extensive experience (over 3 years)  in working with laboratory animals. A completed FELASA C course is required. 

Desirable: Good practical touch in the laboratory and proven ability to work independently as well as in group formations.  Experience with behavioral pharmacology (e.g. elevated plus maze, open field test, T-maze, operant tasks). Moreover, experience with surgical procedures in rodents as well as histochemistry are considered as a considerable advantage.

Applicants will be ranked by the supervisor in consultation with the Department Research Education group. The Committee for Research Education at the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine-Pharmacy will admit the PhD student. Salaries will follow local guidelines at Uppsala University.

Other duties at the Department involving teaching and administrative tasks maybe included in the framework of the position (max 20%). The PhD program normally lasts for 4 years research, plus maximally one year of teaching.
