We conduct extensive PhD education and have about 40 PhD students. Research schools MIT and FIRE are also connected to the department. The department conducts research and provides education on the doctoral level in the following fields: Entrepreneurship, International Business, Marketing, Organization/Management, Accounting/Finance.

Project 1: Value Co-Creation and Regional Development from a Science Megaproject

The project will focus on value co-creation and regional development related to a scientific megaproject, the ESS (the European Spallation Source), currently being constructed in the south of Sweden. Previous studies of big-science organizations (e.g. Åberg, 2013) problematize value creation and appropriation from scientific institutions and argue that value is most often co-created through interaction among actors from different spheres in society. The project focuses on interaction concerning a big-science organization being constructed to reach new insights on value co-creation dynamics before the organization has reached more long-term and stable conditions. The construction of ESS becomes interesting since it is one of the largest megaprojects concerning research infrastructure being built today, and the biggest ever in Sweden. The successful PhD candidate will have the possibility to develop the project plan together with the supervisors, but a specific focus will be put on ICT issues.

The research project deals with the phenomena of the 4th industrial revolution and moving into the digital age. We aim to explore the importance of digital aspects related to the management of the multinational corporation with a particular focus on internal and external firm boundaries. The project aims to elucidate challenges related to being global and local and how different units of the multinational corporation face different managerial challenges and are influenced by digital aspects differently. As a Ph.D. student working within this project, you are expected to actively participate by doing independent research and thereby contribute to the project objectives by writing and publishing research based on the empirical results obtained in the project. The Ph.D. student will be guided and supervised by experienced researchers who also actively participate in the project work.

Project 3: Connectivity Leadership

Digitalization is a full range of software-driven processes – all the way from datafication and computation to prediction, display, communication and action. The rule-changing results of digital transformation are epitomized as a Bing Bang Disruption of incumbent industries and markets (Downes and Nunes, 2013). This kind of disruption is a constant, while the managing processes need to be proactively adaptive and advantage seeking. This development brings about new forms for cooperation both in and between organizations. This PhD project focus what the implications are for leadership processes.

The focus of the project is on the effects of digitalization on inter and intra-organizational collaborations. We recognize that digitalization creates new knowledge that provides essential complementary insights for complex innovation that cannot exist otherwise, while the navigating in this complexity remains unpredictable. Herein lies the leadership challenge. We therefore seek candidates interested in exploring these leadership processes from a micro perspective, using qualitative research methods.
