The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished molecular bioscience departments in Europe.The department comprises six research programs with about 130 employees. This PhD position will be in Professor Johan Åqvist’s research group, in the program for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. The programbrings together research and education in biomolecular computing and bioinformatics,there are about 40 employees, including 15 PhD students.

General description

The research group works in the field of computational biochemistry and computer simulations addressing problem areas such as enzyme catalysis, ligand binding and protein stability. For more information, please see the group website at http://www.icm.uu.se/cbbi/aqvist-lab/.

Work duties

The Ph.D. student shall primarily focus on postgraduate studies, but other duties related to teaching and administrative work may be involved, up to a maximum of 20 % of the time. Requirements

The applicant should have a university degree in chemistry, biochemistry or physics. The applicant should have a solid background in theoretical chemistry and structural biology, as well as experience from computational calculations. Team work ability is considered very important and you must be able to teach in either Swedish or English. Admission decisions will be based on an assessment of the applicant's ability to successfully complete the doctoral studies.

Merits

Experience from molecular dynamics simulations, quantum chemistry, programming and structural bioinformatics.

  • Letter of motivation with a short description of your research interests and qualifications for the project (maximum two pages).
  • CV encompassing education and other merits, as well as a description of relevant skills in relation to the required qualifications. Publication list.
