Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström laboratory conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 200 employees and has a turnover of just over 200 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and civil engineering programs and master's programs.

Subject description: The recently developed lead halide-based perovskite solar cell gives very high power conversion efficiencies at a very low cost. However, many fundamental and practical challenges need to be overcome before this photovoltaic technology can be applied in practice on a large-scale.

Work duties: The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours.

The goal of the project is to find and understand strategies for developing highly efficient and stable perovskite solar cells through interface modification. Such modification can lead to improved chemical stability of devices, as well as improved efficiency through passivation of the interfaces.

Specifically, work tasks are:

• Development and optimization of carrier-selective contacts in perovskite solar cells, e.g. by means if chemical modification of interfaces. Such modification should lead to blocking of ion diffusion at the interfaces and improved stability.

• Development of high efficiency and stable perovskite solar cells both with small bandgap and with larger bandgap (1.7 eV) that are specifically suited as top cell for tandem solar cells.

Thin films and full devices will be investigated using a wide range of methods. The research is performed in close collaboration with several researchers and research groups in Sweden.

Requirements: For employment as postdoc, the applicant should have a PhD exam or an international equivalent in physical chemistry, material science, or equivalent within a maximum of three (3) years before the final application date. The PhD topic must be related to the subject of perovskite solar cells. During certain circumstances, an earlier PhD can be acceptable. Certain circumstances include leave due to illness, maternity leave, in trade unions, etc.

The assessment of applications is based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater importance is attached to the quality of individual scientific work, than to the amount of publications.

Good knowledge in english (written and spoken) is required. Expertise in wet-chemical preparation of perovskite solar cells and their characterization is a prerequisite.

Terms of employment: This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.

Salary: Individually negotiated salary.

Starting date: 01-04-2019 or as otherwise agreed.

Type of position: Temporary position for two years.
