Uppsala University, Department of Ecology and Genetics

A position as a postdoctoral researcher in evolutionary plant ecology is available at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, in the program of Plant Ecology and Evolution.

The Department of Ecology and Genetics is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Our research spans from evolutionary ecology and genetics to studies of ecosystems. For more information, see www.ieg.uu.se.

Project description: The postdoc will work in a project examining how genetic variation in adaptive traits and demographic processes influence evolutionary response and population dynamics in a changing environment (ecoevolutionary dynamics). The project uses the short-lived perennial herb Primula farinosa as a model system, and focuses on the importance of variation in floral traits and life history in relation to differences in intensity of biotic interactions and climate along a latitudinal gradient. Publications from the project can be found at http://www.ieg.uu.se/plant/agren-group/publications/

Duties: Tasks include the establishment and monitoring of experiments in the field, modelling of ecoevolutionary processes based on available demographic data collected in the field for seven years, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. Specific subprojects can be tailored to the skills and interests of the successful candidate.

Qualifications required: For this position the candidate must hold a PhD degree in the fields of ecology, evolutionary biology, or population genetics. Proficiency in spoken and written English is a requirement.

To be eligible the candidate must have a PhD degree, or a foreign degree equivalent to this, completed less than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the degree can/could be completed earlier. Special reasons can for example include leave due to illness, parental leave, or work within a union.

Qualifications desired: In the ranking of eligible candidates, importance will primarily be given to scientific proficiency. In the assessment of scientific qualifications, special importance will be given to research in evolutionary ecology and population genetics. Previous experience of population modelling is a merit.

Position: This is a fulltime temporary position for 24 months. Individual salaries applied.

Access: Start 1 April 2019, or as agreed.

Instructions for the application: The application should include 1) a letter of intent describing yourself, your research interests and motivation of why you want to work as a postdoctoral researcher and why you are suitable for the position, 2) a CV including list of publications, 3) a short description of your education, 4) a copy of your PhD degree, your grades and a copy of your thesis, 5) name and contact information to at least two reference persons (e-mail address and phone no.), 6) relevant publications. The application should be written in English.
