Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences has 140 employees and a number of visiting researchers and fellow students. The department has twelve research groups with a common administration and we are doing research and teaching in pharmaceutical cell biology / biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical and drug addiction, pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacometry, clinical pharmacy, bioinformatics, imaging mass spectrometry, molecular neuropharmacology, immunology, biological drugs / biotechnology as well as toxicology and drug safety. More information about the department and its activities can be found at www.farmbio.uu.se

Placement: The PhD student position is associated with the research group translational pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (tPKPD).

Duties: The project deals with active uptake of drugs into the brain, aiming to improve the treatment of various diseases of central nervous system. tPKPD research group has long standing experience in research within the area of blood-brain barrier transport of drugs. This experimental project is focused on studies of drug transport into the brain in vivo with methods like microdialysis, positron emission tomography (PET) and others. The studies are mostly preclinical, but clinical studies may also be included. The overall purpose of the project is to extend the knowledge on how neuropathology, in particular neuroinflammation, could affect the uptake of drugs into the brain, as well as if there are species differences in active uptake of drugs at the blood-brain barrier. The project will be performed in collaboration with Associate Professor Stina Syvänen at the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, and Professor Gunnar Antoni at Uppsala University Hospital PET-Centre.
