The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, interdisciplinary and successful biomolecular research centers in Europe. The department consists of six research programs with approximately 130 employees. The announced position is part of Sebastian Deindl's research group at the molecular system biology program (deindl lab.com).
Project
Molecular machines are proteins that convert chemical energy into conformational changes in order to perform work in the cell. Our group studies the structural architecture and dynamics of the molecular machines with focus on DNA-interacting enzymes. Malfunction or misregulation of these enzymes is often associated with severe diseases. By studying single molecules in real time we can visualize the molecular machines at work, giving us a unique opportunity to decipher the complex regulatory mechanisms and correlate the structural dynamics with the function of the protein complexes.
Work Description
The hired researcher(s) will study the function of various nucleic acid-interacting protein machines using a combination of biochemical methods in vitro. The project aims at investigating how these machines interact with their substrates (nucleic acids and nucleosomes) and how the catalytic activity is regulated. The long-term goals are to highlight the importance of sequence variations for the catalytic activity, regulation and function. The project involves experimental design as well as data collection and analysis. You will work on the purification of proteins and nucleic acids, as well as with the construction of genetic libraries.
Required qualifications
The applicant must have a doctorate in molecular biology, or other related, relevant area that the employer assesses as equivalent. The applicant should have experience with molecular biology techniques, construction of plasmid / transposon libraries, as well as the assembly and purification of nucleosomes using salt gradient dialysis.Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills and characteristics, such as great collaborative skills. The applicant must also have good communication skills in English, both in speech and in writing, This is a prerequisite for the service. due to the international environment.
Desired qualifications
The project is collaborative and in addition to scientific qualifications we value interpersonal skills.
