Project assistant in computer science: automated verification of floating-point computations

The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department, and have around 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 PhD students. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year.

Duties
We are looking for up to two project assistants to support our larger project on verifying numerical programs that perform computations with floating-point arithmetic, using the deductive verifier Stainless and the static analyser Daisy. One task is to help us with writing specifications to be used as benchmarks for verification with Stainless. The second task concerns performance improvements and code maintenance of the Daisy analyser. Both tools are written in Scala and so both projects will involve programming in Scala.

Requirements
Documented experience with the Scala programming language. The candidate must clearly document a high degree of self-motivation in the application. In addition, the applicant must be able to work well in a diverse group, be comfortable giving and receiving constructive criticism, and have strong abilities for critical thinking and structured work. Excellent skills in spoken and written English are required.

Additional qualifications
Experience with deductive program verification and/or static program analysis is a plus. We will also consider the fit for the project and the surrounding research environment.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 6 months. Scope of employment 20 %. Starting date 1 January 2026 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
