Uppsala University, Department of Literature

Description

The Department of Literary Studies and Rhetoric currently has around 30 active teachers, researchers, and doctoral students. There are two main subjects: literary studies and rhetoric. Both subjects offer education at all levels, from basic courses to postgraduate education. The department is one of the leading Swedish research settings within its fields. Scholarly interests are wide, as are the theoretical approaches and the methodologies applied. Certain areas of specialization have been formalized, and a dedicated Section for the Sociology of Literature has existed since 1965. Our ambition is to be a leading research environment nationally and internationally in both Swedish and international literature.

The position is linked to the research project Catching the Hunter in His Own Trap: The Reception of Vanessa Springora's Consent (2025–2028), funded by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation and led by Associate Professor Sigrid Schottenius Cullhed. The project investigates how Vanessa Springora's book Consent (2020) and its film adaptation (2023) have been received by the French-speaking public—in professional criticism and on social media—and how these discussions reflect changing attitudes toward sexual consent. The study combines digital/language technology methods with literary, feminist, and intermedial analyses. More information about the project can be found here
