Research assistant in Computational Linguistics

The Department of Linguistics and Philology is involved in research and education in a number of languages and language-related subjects and provides an international work environment. The department’s activities cover many of the classical and modern languages and cultures in large areas of Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as computational and general linguistics. Education is offered at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.


Project description and duties
The position is tied to Språkbanken CLARIN (SBC). SBC is a division of the national research infrastructure Språkbanken, with a focus on language-based e-science and creating opportunities for comprehensive research approaches. The aim is to promote new research using digital tools, with activities primarily targeting researchers in the humanities and social sciences who work with text- or speech-based materials. This specific position deals mainly with the development of Swedish resources and treebanks. Duties mainly include linguistic annotation, evaluation and development of language technology tools, and documentation of tools and resources. In addition, administrative duties and some teaching may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in language technology, computational linguistics, computer science, linguistics, or a language subject
  • Documented competence in developing basic computer programs for processing linguistic data
  • Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English

Additional qualifications 

  • Education in language technology
  • Experience of linguistic annotation
  • Experience with digital humanities/digital philology
