Project description
Mental illness is one of the greatest societal challenges of our time. Still healthcare is largely focused on treating symptoms only. RE-MEND is a new Horizon Europe project that wants to turn this around and instead understand what makes mental illness happen and generate new knowledge on the prevention of mental illness. Re-MEND focuses on four critical life stages in which changes in endocrine signaling, including sex hormones, influence an individual’s susceptibility to mental illness: early life, the peripartum period, puberty, and transition into old age. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with several other universities in Sweden and throughout Europe.

Professor Jonas Bergquist's research group is a central part of the RE-MEND project by developing and providing tailored analytical methods for very sensitive analyzes of the body's own endocrine substances (hormones) that can be linked to psychological well-being. The duties will also include participation and project involvement in RE-MEND collaborations.
