Teaching assistant

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.

Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University is the world's leading provider of data on organized violence, and the program is a unique source of information about conflicts worldwide and has been at the Department since the 1980s.

The department and UCDP is now looking for two teaching assistants working 20% each, starting 18 September and working until 31 March 2024.

Duties
The focus will be on collecting and coding information on organized violence into UCDP:s online coding interface, as well as on updating and writing new texts in the programs encyclopedia. 

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level.

The following are also requirements;

  • Bachelor’s degree in peace and conflict studies
  • Very good knowledge of UCDP and its definitions
  • Documented experience of working with conflict data (coding/data management)
  • Proficiency in English (verbally and in writing)
  • Documented ability to work independently
  • Good cooperation skills

Additional qualifications
Earlier experience of collecting conflict data relating to the Middle East and North Africa, or DR Congo or the Indian sub-continent

About the employment
The employment is a: temporary position (6 months), according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment: 20 % per person. Starting date; 18 September 2023. Placement: Uppsala.
