Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competences are pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics, computational modelling and simulations, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competences within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.

Our scientific focus areas in selection: Pharmacodynamics • Pharmacokinetics • Pharmacometrics • Biologics • Clinical Pharmacy • Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology • Pharmacoeconomics • Pharmacoepidemiology • Pharmacotherapy • Social Pharmacy.

Duties/Project
The project will involve establishment of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) relationships based on preclinical and clinical data for new and available antibiotics and nanoparticles. Pharmacometric models will be developed based on in vitro, in vivo and literature data. The models aim to bridge (translate) exposure-response relationships from animals to humans in order to optimize clinical dosing. The project is part of a new research environment and involves collaboration with expertise in nanoparticle technology, microbiology, infectious diseases and organic chemistry. We expect that the project will lead to new advances in predictive and quantitative methods for characterizing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the field.

Requirements
PhD degree in pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics / pharmacometrics or a related field or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in the specified field. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation to improve methods for antibiotic development and antibiotic use. The applicant must be able to express themselves well, both orally and in writing, in English.

Additional qualifications
Pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation of antibiotics and/or nanoparticles. Experience of model-based translation from preclinic to clinic for antibiotics in drug development. Interest in, and skill in, scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience of collaborating in international networks.

Application: The application should include (i) a motivation letter with a brief description of the candidate and research interests as well as experiences in relation to the requirements and qualifications listed above, and the topics pharmacometrics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and oncology (ii) the candidate's CV, (iii) copies of diplomas and certificates, (iv) two recommendation letters (where one preferably would be from a supervisor of the Master thesis) and (v) thesis, as well as other relevant documents that the applicant wish to refer to, such as proficiency in English.
