Postdoctoral position in experimental aneurysm research
The Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University is a strong and international researchenvironment. The department has more than 110 employees, of which about 25 are doctoral students, 10postdoctoral fellows, and 40 researchers, teachers and professors.
The research group of Dick Wågsäter at the Department of Medical Cell Biology (https://www.uu.se/en/department/medical-cell-biology/research/research-groups/dick-wagsater) works to increase the understanding of underlyingmechanisms of development and treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm. To achieve this, a translational approach is taken with a focus on inflammation, metabolism and adipocytes.
Duties
We are now looking for a qualified and motivated postdoctoral researcher who will perform experiments in vivo in mice models of abdominal aortic aneurysms, predominantly using angiotensin II, to evaluate certain genes influence on the disease. Standard molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, immunohistology, western blotting and more are available in the laboratory. In addition, the duties will include breeding of mice, writing of articles and grants, as well as presenting findings at national and international conferences. The duties will include lab maintenance, and may include teaching for the interested applicant. An individualized postdoc training program will be provided and you will be offered additional training for techniques you are not familiar with.
Requirements
PhD degree in medicine or other relevant subject or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in these. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment.
The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to specialcircumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due tocircumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a robust background in cellular, experience with animal husbandry and experimental work in metabolism and inflammation. FELASA certification in Sweden is required or to be attained within the first month of training. The successful applicant has broad experience from such work in a preclinical setting. Experience with mice and specific techniques used in the project is meritorious. The applicant must be proficient in the English language, speech and writing, and have at least one published first-author article in a well-renowned scientific journal within the field. You are expected to be able to work independently, but also actively cooperate with other members of the group.
Additional qualifications
Experience from work on functional studies of general metabolism both in vitro and in vivo is desirable. Personal qualifications will be of great significance in the evaluation process.
The application should contain a brief description of research interests and relevant experiences, CV (max 2 pages), copies of diplomas and transcripts, FELASA and the applicant’s thesis (or a draft). Please also submit letters of reference and contact information of previous research supervisors (at least 2).
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of two years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
