Uppsala University, Department of Earth Sciences

The Department of Earth Sciences of Uppsala University is one of the most complete of such academic departments in Europe, with about 200 employees. Our research focuses on subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans, from the formation of the Earth until today. We investigate the development of life and the Earth over billions of years, and study the connections between the atmosphere and oceans with regards to climate change and sustainable development.

The Centre for Environment and Development Studies, CEMUS, has since the start in 1992 carried out student-led education within the broad and interdisciplinary environmental and sustainability area. Read more about our educational model and courses at www.cemus.uu.se.

Work tasks: As a teaching assistant you work with the planning, administration, delivery and reporting of a university course. The work is based on the course syllabus and is carried out together with a colleague and in close collaboration with guest lecturers, a course work group (consisting of experienced university teachers, researchers and professors), and the educational coordinators at Cemus. The work includes contacts with guest lecturers and students, course planning, literature planning, preparation of seminars, workshops and course administration. Part of the work is to creatively build on experiences from previous course offerings and pass on one’s own experiences to future teaching assistants.

  • 2 position: Climate Change Leadership in Practice, 30 credits
  • 2 position: Global Economy, 15 credits

Extent 20%, period 2020-03-15 – 2021-03-14

  • 2 positions: Sustainable Development: World Views and Visions, 5 credits (part of the Master program in Sustainable Development)

Extent 17%, period 2020-03-15 – 2021-03-14

  • 2 position: Sustainability and Development in Latin America, 7.5 credits
  • 2 position: Critical Perspectives on Sustainable Development in Sweden, 7.5 credits
  • 2 position: Global Challenges Sustainable Futures, 7.5 credits
  • 2 positions: *Klimatet, Energin och det Moderna Samhället, 7.5hp
  • 2 positions: *Global miljöhistoria, 7.5hp

Qualifications:

  • Ongoing university studies (higher education), see the Swedish regulations Högskoleförordningen 5 kap.
  • Good computer skills and good spoken and written English language skills are necessary. For courses in Swedish (marked with *), good language skills in Swedish in speech and writing are necessary.
  • Documented ability to independently manage and complete tasks within given time frames, even during temporary work peaks.

Desirable/other merits: Studies within the field of sustainable development. Experience of transdisciplinary education. Experience of planning and facilitating workshops and seminars. Documented ability to collaborate with people from different backgrounds. Individual suitability to successfully carry out the work tasks will be given strong consideration.
