Project description: The PhD project overall objective is to provide new evidence-based knowledge on perinatal mental disorder and possible interventions to reduce the problem. The project has four aims, 1) To understand the burden and factors associated with perinatal mental disorder and disrespect and abuse of women during perinatal period in Nepal, 2) to develop an intervention package to reduce perinatal mental disorder and mistreatment of women during perinatal period, 3) to evaluate implementation adequacy of the intervention package for respectful maternity care, and 4) to evaluate the impact of the intervention package on perinatal mental disorder.

Description of the task

Under the supervision of the supervisors, the PhD student shall:

- Conduct a systematic review on the association between mistreatment during childbirth and postpartum depression globally;

- Conduct a scoping study on respectful care in Nepal;

- Support development the design of intervention in Nepal;

- Lead on location implementation of the intervention (advocacy, coordination and administration);

- Ensure high quality data generation and management secure data storage.

Requirements:

The candidate who will be offered the position should:

- Hold a degree in Nursing and in-service training in Midwifery or a degree in midwifery or equivalent

- Hold a master degree in relevant subject.

- Have at least three years of nursing or public teaching experience

- Have at least three to four years of experience of project management in maternal and newborn health program

- Have experience as program manager to hospital based quality improvement project for respectful maternity care in Low and Middle Income Country

- Familiarity with Nepalese health system

- Be fluent in Nepali and English (writing and speaking)

Salary: According to local agreement for PhD students.  

Starting date: 15 September 2020 or as otherwise agreed.
