This PhD position is funded by the European Union thru a Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN-ETN-project. The PhD student will thereby take a part of an educational network, ENTWINE – The European Training Network on Informal Care (https://entwine-itn.eu). The position is situated at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland, Visby. The PhD student would conduct research studies affiliated to Digital Innovation Gotland Graduate Academy, a collaboration between Uppsala University and local industry and public administration.

In general, research in Information Systems is concerned with the scientific study of the use and development of IT-based information systems, including the interaction between systems, developers, users, organizations, and society. The purpose is to increase the understanding of how IT can create value for different stakeholders. The research is both theoretical and practical. Different methods are used such as traditional social scientific qualitative and quantitative empirical methods (e.g. interviews and surveys) and constructing and evaluating innovative uses of IT systems. Duties:
We are seeking a candidate with an above-average MSc (or equivalent degree) in Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction or related field. We expect interest in eHealth and a balanced approach to technology design and behavioral aspects of technology use in organizations. Required skills include a sound background in persuasive design, prototyping, software engineering, and design-oriented research methods. Practical experience of mixed-methods evaluation techniques is a plus. Excellent knowledge and skills in the English language is a requirement.

Qualifications required:
Appropriate background is a master degree in Information Systems, Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction or equivalent. A general description of postgraduate studies in Information Systems can be found in the general syllabus, available at: http://www.samfak.uu.se/.

The PhD position is available for all nationalities. The application will have to agree with the European commission’s mobility rule, meaning that you at the time of starting your position can not have been resident or have practiced your principal activity (e.g. work, studies etc.) in Sweden longer than 12 months during the three years directly prior to the employment (expected to be March 1, 2019). Mandatory national duty and shorter residency, e.g. vacation, is not included in this time.

The employed PhD student’s main activities will be research studies. Other duties at the department related to teaching and administration may be included in the position (maximum 20% of fulltime). For employment as PhD student, the student is required to be admitted or become admitted to the graduate program, where capability to succeed with the PhD studies is essential. Salary is set according to local agreements at Uppsala University and in line with the rules and regulations of the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Curie Initial Training Networks. A doctoral student may be employed for maximum eight years, however the length (or duration) of the employment may not exceed the equivalent to full-time doctoral studies of four years.
