Research Assistant - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences with approximately 100 employees from a dozen countries. Each year about 1,000 students participate in undergraduate (BA), graduate (MA) and PhD level courses. The research conducted at the department is mainly focused on labour economics, macroeconomics, political economics and public economics. Researchers at the department are frequently engaged as experts by the government and by the media, and interact with the society at large in a number of ways.

Duties

The position is divided between two research projects at the department: MacH2M and a research project on the economic effects of AI. In both projects, the work will primarily consist of analyzing and processing large microdata sets, as well as programming in other programming languages.

In the MacH2M part of this position, you will mainly work with microdata by programming in various programming languages, primarily STATA. One task involves using the SAS programming language to run exercises in the FASIT microsimulation model from Statistics Sweden (SCB). For this part of the work, much of the data documentation and existing code is in Swedish. Large parts of the remaining work can be carried out in English.

In the project on the economic effects of AI, you will also work with microdata, in this case in collaboration with the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis (Tillväxtanalys) and potentially other government agencies. The project studies structural transformation and other economic processes in real time, and your task will be to develop and update analytical frameworks for this purpose under the supervision of a research group at Uppsala University.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree focused on quantitative analysis, for example in economics, statistics, computer science, or an engineering discipline. 
• Experience in programming, such as Python or similar. 
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
• Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as collaboration, attention to detail, and a structured approach to work.

Additional qualifications

• A Master's degree or started Master's degree in in one of the above-mentioned fields. 
• Experience in managing and analysing large datasets (microdata).
• Proficient in Swedish, both written and spoken.
