Are you interested in working in an interdisciplinary project on toxicity of novel battery components in a friendly, thriving, international environment? The Molecular Toxicology and Epigenetics (EpiTox) group at the Department of Organismal Biology together with the Structural Chemistry research program at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström is looking for a postdoctoral researcher who wants to contribute to safe and sustainable technological developments. The EpiTox group is part of the research program Physiology and Environmental Toxicology, a growing, vibrant research environment where experimental models and molecular tools are used to study and understand cellular and molecular mechanisms in animals and plants underlying whole organisms' physiology, development, and responses to the environment. The Structural Chemistry program has for many years hosted and focused on research and development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance and sustainability, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques.
Duties
You will design and perform in vitro toxicity tests of chemicals and chemical mixtures that are used in the development of new batteries at the Structural Chemistry program. Duties include the choice of relevant tests based on literature and in silico predictions, if possible, study design and performance of the test in the laboratory, and analyses and interpretation of the results. Additional duties include participation in regular meeting and presenting progress and results with the interdisciplinary project participants, writing scientific publications, participating in international meetings and conferences, and advising students at different educational levels. It is expected that you will perform your duties independently, and engage in the scientific and social activities in the two groups, at the Physiology and Environmental program and at the Structural Chemistry program at the two departments.
Requirements
PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in environmental toxicology or fields deemed as similar by the employer. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
Well-documented experience with chemical testing using cellular or whole organism in vitro models and knowledge in environmental toxicology is required. As the work will be carried out in an international interdisciplinary environment, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Emphasis will also be placed on personal qualities. We seek a highly motivated person with original, creative and analytical thinking and team spirit. The applicant is expected to take initiative and work independently.
Additional qualifications
Experience with in silico methods for toxicity prediction as well as knowledge in inorganic in general and battery chemistry in particular is advantageous.
