Uppsala University, Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently organized in six research programs: Cancer Precision Medicine, Cancer Immunotherapy, Genomics and Neurobiology, Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics, Neuro-Oncology and Neurodegeneration and Vascular Biology. Departmental activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 550 million, out of which about two thirds derive from external funding. IGP has approximately 400 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 850 affiliated staff members. Duties
A Research Assistant position is available in the research group of Veronica Rendo at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an interest in studying malignant brain tumors, supporting projects that focus on elucidating the mechanisms of response and resistance associated with standard-of-care treatment and clinically-relevant targeted therapies in this disease.
Read more about the research group here: http://rendolab.org/
The Research Assistant will conduct computational analyses to investigate tumor evolution and treatment resistance in tumor samples and cell lines from brain tumor patients. These include single-cell RNA, ATAC, and multiome sequencing data, along with datasets generated from cellular barcoding approaches, epigenetic profiling methods (e.g., CUT&RUN), and genome-wide CRISPR screens.

Requirements
The candidate must have a Master's degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, machine learning, molecular medicine, or equivalent, or be scheduled to graduate by July 2026 at the latest. The candidate should be proficient with R or Python programming, statistics, and handling of large datasets. Previous experience sequence in data analysis and visualization is expected. Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

Additional qualifications
Experience with analysis of bulk and single-cell RNA- and ATC-seq datasets is considered a strong merit, particularly in the field of oncology. The ideal candidate has experience processing and analyzing large bioinformatics datasets in a Linux/UNIX environment, including the use of high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, and is familiar with version control systems such as Git.
