Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Statistics

Uppsala University announces a vacancy for a

Senior Lecturer in Statistics

at the Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics has approximately 25 staff members who both teach and conduct research. We provide education at the undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as doctoral education. Research is conducted in several areas, including biostatistics, econometrics/time series analysis, high-dimensional multivariate linear models, analysis of textual data, causal inference, and structural equation modeling.

Duties

The position involves teaching, examination, research, and administrative duties, with teaching constituting a substantial part of the role. High standards are placed on pedagogical competence and the ability to adapt the level and content of teaching to different target groups. Teaching at the undergraduate level is largely conducted in Swedish, while teaching at the advanced level is conducted exclusively in English. Teaching responsibilities include course coordination and course administration. The applicant is also expected to initiate and participate in pedagogical development work and to take responsibility for institutional duties.

Initially, the department requires reinforcement at the undergraduate level. Teaching may include courses in basic statistics, but also, for example, econometrics, time series analysis, statistical learning, and multivariate methods. Teaching at the advanced level is also part of the duties. Supervision of thesis projects in statistics at both undergraduate and advanced levels is a necessary part of the teaching responsibilities.

The duties also include actively applying for external research funding and keeping abreast of developments within the applicant’s own subject area, as well as broader societal developments that are relevant to the role of a university teacher.

Statistical consulting may form a substantial part of the duties.

In summary, the applicant is expected to contribute to the department’s long-term development work in both research and teaching.
