Research Assistant position in cell and molecular biology

At the Molecular Geriatrics, Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, Rudbeck Laboratory.

This position will be placed at the Cellular Neurochemistry Group led by Assistant Professor Wojciech Michno, part of the Molecular Geriatrics unit at the Rudbeck Laboratory.

The research environment provides internationally recognized expertise in in vitro cell models, including transdifferentiation and organoid generation, as well as multiomics and spatial multiomics. The research is supported by funding from prestigious sources, including the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab).

As we are seeking a results-oriented and technically skilled research assistant who is driven by translating scientific discoveries to practical applications in an interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research project
Three-dimensional cell cultures, such as spheroids, organoids, and assembloids, are transforming biomedical research by closely mimicking native tissue architecture and function. A special research focus of our group is to develop improved 3D models that carry diverse glial populations and characterize them phenotypically in context of neurological diseases.   

Duties
The tasks within this project you will be working with cutting-edge cell ipsc derived cell models, genetic engineering, and cellular and molecular assays to design, deploy and analyze system in neurooncological and neurodegenerative setting.

In addition to research, some participation in communication of research results through scientific articles in well-established scientific journals are also included as important aspects of the employment.

Requirements
This position requires a Master's degree, within biological/chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or an equivalent degree in a related field.

We require documented knowledge and experience in iPCS culture, transdifferentiation, brain organoid generation, and CRISPR. Additionality, familiarity with microscopy and, and analytical techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and analyses with qPCR, digital PCR, protein assessments with ELISA, immunolabelling (IHC, IF, ICC) in required.

We require good oral and written skills in English.

Additional qualifications
Documented knowledge and experience in the following areas is considered meritorious for this position:

  • Python or R

We attach great importance to your personal qualities, and you must be self-motivated and proactive, have the ability to independently plan and run projects as well as possess excellent analytical ability and skill with practical handling of experimental equipment.

 

You must also be pedagogical, structured and able to work effectively both individually and in groups, as well as be able to collaborate and communicate with people in different subject areas easily.

About the employment

The employment is a temporary position, 5 months. Scope of employment 100%. Starting date xx or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
