Postdoctoral position in Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people work at the department. More than 100 people work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. You can find more information about us here.
Project description
The position is focused on using innovative and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry tools, including MSI, DIP and single-cell MS, for deciphering the chemical mechanisms of life in projects with medical relevance, including type 2 diabetes. The post doctor will work within the Lanekoff group on collaborative research projects within the group and within the Center of Excellence for the Chemical Mechanisms of Life .
The successful candidate has a strong background in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry. In addition to working collaboratively and interdisciplinary, the candidate will have the opportunity to influence the undertaken projects.
Duties
The successful candidate will perform high-quality mass spectrometric research with emphasis on spatial and single-cell metabolomics. They will be involved in collaborative projects as well as driving their own using high-end methodologies and instrumentation. As a postdoctoral researcher, they will collaborate with PhD students, students, and researchers in the groups and in the center in an interdisciplinary setting, in addition to writing publications, grant applications and be involved in outreach activities.
Requirements
Ph.D. degree in natural or technical sciences, or a foreign degree equivalent to such Ph.D. degree, with a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry focusing on mass spectrometry being preferred. The degree needs to be obtained by the start of the employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc. The successful candidate has experience with mass spectrometry of small molecules in biological samples.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, as well as how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the abilities necessary to develop within the project.
Additional qualifications
Experience with high resolution mass spectrometry, experience with mass spectrometry imaging, cell handling, sample preparation, data handling, statistics, programming and scientific writing will be seen as merits. Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of applying.
