The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden's largest and most versatile department of its kind with approximately 300 employees. The Swedish National Seismic Network, SNSN (www.snsn.se), is part of the programme for Geophysics in the Department of Earth Sciences. SNSN operates 69 permanent seismic stations distributed across the country, from Veberöd in the south to Torneträsk in the north. Local, regional and global earthquakes are recorded, analysed and archived in the daily operation. The SNSN also runs an information service which provides support to society in case of natural disasters around the globe, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and volcano eruptions. This service is widely used, by government agencies, media, the general public and companies, as well as international collaborators. A significant part of the work at SNSN is directed to development of analysis tools, international data sharing, maintenance work in the field and collaboration with seismic networks in Europe and beyond.

 

Duties

Participation in the routine analysis and daily operations at the SNSN, and in projects where analysis of SNSN data is required. Maintenance of SNSN instrumentation and stations.

 

Requirements

We are looking for you who have:

- A university degree in seismology, geophysics or physics.
- Experience of analysis of seismic data.
- Knowledge of Linux/UNIX systems.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics such as problem-solving ability, collaborative skills as well as an independent and structured approach to work.

 

Additional qualifications

It is an advantage if you meet have experience of working at a seismic network.

The employment is a temporary position until 2026-06-30. Scope of employment 30%Starting date 2026-01-15 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
